A sideboard looks best when some wall stays free on the left and right. As a rule of thumb, aim for about two thirds of the wall length.
Under a television, the sideboard should be wider than the set. The top edge then usually sits at 45 to 60 cm, so the middle of the screen stays at eye level when you are seated.
Common questions
How deep should a sideboard be?
40 to 45 cm is enough for plates, glasses and electronics. In narrow hallways, 30 to 35 cm will also do.
Can I choose the length freely?
